“This was my first real snow experience. -15°C, frozen water, and nights that test you. But somewhere in that cold, I learned how to handle discomfort — and enjoy it.”
— StayLocal Founder
Kuari Pass was my first time experiencing real snow — not just seeing it, but living in it.
Temperatures dropped to around -15°C. Water bottles froze. Hands went numb if you stayed still too long.
But once you start walking, something changes. The cold becomes part of the experience.
The trail was covered in snow — clean, silent, and raw. No noise, no distractions, just you and the mountains.
This trek taught me something simple — it’s not about carrying more, it’s about carrying smart. And understanding how to adapt.
Day by Day
Delhi → Rishikesh
Overnight bus from Delhi to Rishikesh (₹450 approx). Reached early morning and met trek group.
Rishikesh → Basecamp
Drive to basecamp (Joshimath side). Long but scenic journey through mountains.
Trek begins — snow starts
Started trek. First signs of snow on trail. Cold increased, but manageable while walking.
Deeper into snow zone
Trail fully covered in snow. Walking became slower. Campsite extremely cold at night.
Kuari Pass summit
Reached Kuari Pass. Clear views of Himalayan peaks. Cold wind, but unforgettable moment.
Return trek + basecamp
Descended back through same trail. Slightly easier but still tiring.
Return to Rishikesh → Delhi
Drive back to Rishikesh and overnight bus to Delhi.
Tips & Notes
- Carry proper thermal layers — layering matters more than heavy jackets.
- Warmee or heat packs are very useful — almost lifesaving in extreme cold.
- Pack light — don’t carry unnecessary items.
- Good trekking shoes are a must (snow grip matters).
- Stay hydrated even if you don’t feel thirsty.
- Kuari Pass is a better choice than Kedarkantha if you want less crowd and more real experience.
- Mentally prepare for cold — it’s not easy, but worth it.
