“I’ve been here 4–5 times — and every time feels slightly different. Darjeeling is familiar, but Lamahatta is where I go when I want silence.”

— StayLocal Founder

Darjeeling is one of those places that never feels new — yet never feels boring. I’ve been here 4–5 times, and every visit has been different.

The first time, I did all the usual things — Mall Road, cafés, viewpoints. But over time, I started slowing down, exploring less crowded corners.

That’s how I found Lamahatta. Just 40–45 minutes away, but completely different. No crowd, just pine trees, prayer flags, and silence.

Now whenever I come here, I split my time — a little bit of Darjeeling’s energy, and a little bit of Lamahatta’s calm.

It’s not about ticking places anymore — it’s about how the place makes you feel. And this one keeps pulling me back.

Day by Day

1

Kolkata → Siliguri → Darjeeling

Overnight train/bus from Kolkata to Siliguri (₹900 approx). From Siliguri, took NBSTC local bus to Darjeeling (₹105). Reached by afternoon. Evening walk at Mall Road.

2

Darjeeling local exploration

Visited local cafés, tea gardens, and viewpoints. No strict plan — just walked around and explored slowly. Evening again at Mall Road.

3

Lamahatta — the quiet side

Took a local ride to Lamahatta (40–45 mins). Completely peaceful — pine forests, prayer flags, and walking trails. Spent hours doing nothing.

4

Flexible / return

Optional sunrise (Tiger Hill) or free morning. Then return to Siliguri and back to Kolkata.

Tips & Notes

  • Use NBSTC bus (₹105) — cheapest and reliable option.
  • Stay near Mall Road for easy access.
  • Visit Lamahatta early morning for best experience.
  • Carry light jacket — weather changes quickly.
  • Avoid peak crowd weekends if possible.
  • Must try: Momos, Thukpa, and Darjeeling tea at local cafés — simple places often taste better than fancy ones.
  • Underrated: Walk towards Lamahatta eco park trails or explore quiet roads beyond main market — less crowd, better views.
